What do you consider to be your main area of expertise?
My skills primarily reside in the PeopleSoft Technical consulting
with Interfaces, Reports, Customisations and integrations as key areas.
What project have you most enjoyed working on and why?
The Australian Customs Service Upgrade from v6 to v7.5 was the most enjoyable
project for me. The project commenced with rigid deadlines, users hating the
product and customisations up to the neck. The upgrade streamlined the
customisations and introduced HRMS ESS (Self Service), which gave PeopleSoft
a new user interface, leading to user satisfaction (which I personally
value the most).
What would you most like added to the PeopleSoft product?
Simplified upgrade path for PeopleSoft releases. This process segregates the
customisations from core product (isolates customisations) and continues to
upgrade the core product.
What is the most frustrating thing about the PeopleSoft product?
The flexibility of the product is the most frustrating aspect. I know you must
be thinking isn't that a feature? Well flexibility is a feature as long as the
customisations are in moderation and done only when business processes cannot
undergo minor alterations.
What originally drew you to consulting or the computing field?
Coming from a Chemical Engineering background where everything was measured
in volume, temperature or pressure, computing was a major change in mindset
as it considerably reduced my working with S

... Consulting provided me
with opportunity to interact with people and complex problems which needed
an optimised resolution in various business arenas. It also gave me an insight
into operations of organisations of diverse nature ranging from corporations
to governmental bodies to educational institutions.
What advice would you give to a new client starting with
PeopleSoft?
- Take baby steps in, with minimal customisations at the outset.
- Break the implementation process into six monthly phases.
- Use Vanilla as far as possible.
Why did you join Congruent?
Working at Andersen Consulting (Accenture) in my past life was a great learning
experience and skills development process but it lacked the personal touch. Congruent
offered me that with their non-hierarchical environment. Congruent has a blend of high calibre
consultants to learn from and flexibility to have a life, if you know what I mean?
Where do you want to be in 5 years time?
If anyone had asked me this question at the beginning of this year, I would have said
to be a successful entrepreneur in the area of HR consulting in India. But as I recently
got married, priorities have changed and now I want to be an all-rounder PeopleSoft
consultant. By all-rounder I mean I should be both functional and technical consultant
with a component of leadership/project management role.
