What do you consider to be your main area of expertise?
As a functional HR specialist my main areas of expertise are system set up
and solution design along with process design. My background as a qualified
HR professional combined with my extensive PeopleSoft experience allows me
to concentrate on how companies can get the best out of their new HR system.
What is the most interesting customisation that you have done
or seen in PeopleSoft?
Not a customisation but persuading a client to allow all the HR staff access
to every employee on the system. Making access and reporting nice and simple
and moving them to an HR culture that was far more open and trusting. As
expected, the change was news for half a day then everyone lost interest in
who was paid what and stopped being surprised that their boss was paid more
than they were.
What would you most like added to the PeopleSoft product?
More filters/options when searching for employee records.
What advice would you give to a new client starting with
PeopleSoft?
Beware of too many choices. PeopleSoft offers a lot of flexibility in terms
of set up choices and customisation. This encourages some companies to
customise more than they should rather than tackle the tougher issues of
changing and standardising their processes and procedures. Changing some
practises can be tough, especially where they relate to pay and pay scales,
but to fully take advantage of the benefits of a new system it is worth
tackling these as early as possible.
