What do you consider to be your main area of expertise?
I have not yet gained enough experience with PeopleSoft to have an area
of expertise, but I am sure that my strengths will come through as my
training develops. Being a people based person, I enjoy looking at problems
from the users' perspective. I feel that the people who directly use an
application are often not given the attention they deserve; yet they are
critical to the effective use and functionality of a product.
My experience to date includes working in a variety of organisations
including legal, medical, technical and teaching. With this breadth of
experience and my enjoyment of creating good user interfaces, combined
with my technical background, I hope, over time to become a successful
and unique front end functional consultant.
What project have you most enjoyed working on and why?
I am enjoying my first assignment, working at MCI, just outside Reading.
As each day passes I am learning more about practical project management,
PeopleSoft software and what it can achieve, and human resources.
I am looking forward to increasing my contribution to the team when I
have carried out more formal training in PeopleSoft.
What originally drew you to consulting or the computing field?
This is a tough one. I was getting no challenge from the work I was doing
and always knew that the only way forward for me was to go back to education.
I wanted to build on skills that I already had and decided to choose a computing
module, which I enjoyed very much. It entailed learning about the principles of
computing. My computing skills extended to word processing alone up until this
point. It was from here that I decided to pursue computing at degree level.
Why did you join Congruent?
I have often thought that consultancy would be a good area to get into.
I enjoy working on the people side of computing and was very pleased when
Congruent offered me a job with training, which was just what I had been looking for.
I liked the people, the company and the way it is run.
Where do you want to be in 5 years time?
In five years time I would like to be a fully fledged consultant,
bringing work in for Congruent and enjoying myself.
